Summer Wrap Up

Every Summer we talk about camping, and every summer it seems like we end up too busy to ACTUALLY get out and camp. Last year we only took the boat out ONE TIME! Our Summers here just FLY by – it’s not really hot until July and Tessa goes back to school at the end of August. It seems like all of the weekends that we could be camping or boating are taken up doing yard work projects or just hanging out at home.
I know it’s not the tragedy I’m making it sound like, but we do always regret not getting out more at the end of the Summer.
So this year, we vowed to get out more.

We boated at Deer Creek 3 times, camping over night once. Deer Creek is such an awesome place for us to go – the drive is easy and FAST – only 30 minutes from the lake to home on a Sunday afternoon with no traffic!

The first time we went with Natalie and Dave – no friends for the kids, but Dave made up for it by teaching them both a lot about fishing. Asher, especially, LOVED it. His cast was pretty impressive by the end!
We camped over night on this trip (even the dogs came along!) and got to boat for two days.

The second time we went out we went with the Washburns – Megan, my girl scout co-leader (and sort-of-cousin) and her family. Serena and Tessa are best buddies and Miranda, their older daughter, is so great about playing with them. Lydia is Asher’s age and though they don’t play all that well together (Asher only wants to play with boys lately!) they are at least the same age!

The last time we went we took our friends and neighbors, the Dresslers. I was most excited for this trip because BOTH of the kids would have friends. Jules is a year older than Tessa and Ace is a year older than Asher – Alec is right in the middle. All of the kids get along very well and I couldn’t wait for them to get to spend the day swimming and tubing together.
Unfortunately, Asher got sick.
He picked up a flu bug that was going around and ended up throwing up off the side of the boat at one point. Poor little man! He was pretty good natured throughout, though, napping in the cuddy and on my lap.

Poor Asher, hanging out in the cuddy with George. He tried for a long time to feel better, then finally went to sleep. When he woke up he felt even worse, and we cut our trip short :(

After this last trip to Deer Creek we decided we really needed a longer camping trip, so we planned to go to Bear Lake. That will have to be told about in another post, though - so that this one doesn't end up 10 pages long!

Wedding!

Killian and Andrea are getting married tomorrow!!!
Tonight is the rehearsal dinner, tomorrow morning is the actual rehearsal. Matt has his tux, Tessa's dress is ready to go, I even found slacks for Asher.
We're so excited for them!

My parents were invited to the reception and they'll be taking the kids home with them to spend the night when they go. After the wedding is over Matt and I are going to try to make it to L'Jeans roller skating Birthday party - sounds like so much fun! Hopefully we're not too beat from all-day wedding festivities.

Well, we've been 24 hours now without throwing up...please, God, let that be it!

I'm still planning on staying home most of today to let him rest as much as possible - which is why I'm posting a 3rd day in a row!!!

Our invitation for Killian and Andrea's wedding came a couple of days ago. They turned out pretty well, even if I do say so myself!

I think I mentioned that I took their pictures and designed their invitations, but I don't think I ever posted any. Now seemed like a good time to do that! Here's the final invitation.

We did the first set of pictures at Temple Quary, up Little Cottonwood Canyon, at the end of May. We got some really cute ones.

We did another session at the Great Salt Lake just a few weeks ago - the night before we left for Lake Powell. Here are a couple of my favorites from that session.

The wedding is October 10. Matt is a groomsman and Tessa is the flower girl - can't wait to see them both all cute and dressed up :)

10 Years Out

So we graduated 10 whole years ago. I know I say it all the time...but seriously - time flies!



I've been looking forward to our 10 year reunion for a while. We started talking about it last year - mostly Deanna and I - about how fun it would be. We had all kinds of silly plans about how we would dress, etc.
Now it's here, and our Senior Class Officers have done such a crappy job putting the thing together that I don't think we're going.
The reunion is August 16 at the Park City Mountain Resort. How pretentious can you get?! It also costs $40 per person to go. What do we get for that $40? Oh...dinner. Actually, it gets you "a delicious dinner in a beautiful mountain resort surrounded by people from an incredibly influential period of your life"
That comes directly from Mark Hansen, senior class president. Gag.
I didn't know Mark in high school, so I can't say if he's always been a jerk or if it's a new personality development - but his comments on the reunion site are all condescending and rude. Really makes me want to go.

On top of all that, we had a graduating class of just under 1000 students. Largest in history, at the time (and since, I believe.)
A whopping 89 people have registered on the reunion site. And that's not even an accurate number, because a few people have somehow managed to sign themselves up twice.
Our class officers are not sending out invitations - they say the cost and time commitment is too much for it to be worth it. They also said that they did send out invitations for the 5 year reunion, and got over half returned as a wrong address.
Bullshit. My parents, Matt's parents, Natalie's parents, Jon's parents, Sterlings parents ALL lived in the same house they did when we were in High School. NONE of them got an invitation.

The class officers tell us (on the site, of course - because they are not attempting to notify people in any other way) that they are hoping to see 150 people at the reunion. That's 75 students and their significant other. Wow. Less than 10% of our class. And I can pretty much guarantee you that none of them will be people I care to see - they'll all be friends of the class officers.

Lame, lame, lame. It all adds up to a reunion that I couldn't care less about. Which is sad, because it should have been fun!

Luckily, my old bff, Mindy, organized a park get together a couple of weeks ago and fed my need for nostalgia. More about that later - with pictures!

Also, Mark, Matt's old bff, got married and invited us to the wedding! So we got to see him, too. After, Matt said maybe he'd do something like Mindy did and invite his old friends over for a barbecue or something. I think he should. It was fun to see everyone, and we've fallen out of touch with almost everyone we were friends with back then.

Ironically, the group of friends we hang out with now almost all went to Alta, too, and were part of our graduating class.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent about The Great Reunion Debacle. Or, as Matt calls it "Our Class Officers Failure at Life"

Killian asked Andrea to marry him last night! She said yes, of course!
Everyone is so excited for them. It seems crazy that they've only been together for 6 months, because they are perfect for each other. Now we just need to find someone for Natalie to love and all will be well.
Horrocks may be a bachelor for life. I've often argued with friends when they've said that, but truly he's very difficult to please, he has limited social skills, and he seems reluctant to offer much of himself to anyone.
Anyway - I can't wait to hear what Kill and Andrea are planning for their wedding!

This week is Tessa's first school program. She's been talking about it for weeks, and they are practicing very seriously in school. They skip recess to practice, rather than take more time away from their work. I love that!
She's doing so well in school. We had parent teacher conferences last week and her teachers were very complimentary of her. She had all A's and all Hs in citezenship. The first thing they said when we sat down was "who does she get the awesome Math skills from?" I pointed at Matt and said "Uh, that would be him!"
She's really amazing. And her reading is awesome, too. She reads for fun! How wonderful that she likes to read. She loves science, too. It's probably what she talks about most. A couple weeks ago they learned about the solar system and for show and teach on Friday she colored a picture of the sun and all the planets (with some help from me).
She loves school. Now we just have to encourage that!

Asher is talking more and more, though he's still stubborn about saying things that I know he can on a regular basis. His newest thing is pointing to all of his features and saying the name. He does eyes, ears, mouth, cheek, hair, neck and nose. Except that he refuses to say nose and instead calls it an eye. I can't tell you how many times a day I say "NOSE" emphatically. It's comical. I'm convinced he's doing it on purpose, to screw with me.
Other new things...he tries to whistle when I call for the dogs to come back in. He's at the dancing stage - anytime he hears music he starts moving. He's also miming everything he sees. He leans against a wall, crosses his legs, crouches on the floor - just about anything. He copies us both, but especially daddy. It's very cute.

I've started a Bunko group, the first game is this Thursday night at my house. My timing wasn't very good - it's the evening of Tessa's program, but I'm still excited. Should be fun. I have a lot of work to do still, though. I need to buy the prizes, write the rules, copy score sheets, etc.
As soon as all that is done it's on to Tessa's party. I'm making her a fairy costume yet again. She's having a Neverland party this year and she wants to be Prilla from her Fairy books. The costume you could buy seems to have been discontinued, so I'm making it. Making the invitations, too.
Next weekend we are going to St. George with Matt's family for Jesse's Birthday. Should be fun, but it's time I wish I wasn't wasting. I could use those nights to work on her party!
