I feel awful about not having posted about our anniversary - what a terrible thing to neglect!
July 7 was our 10 year anniversary. 10 years!
I feel so lucky to have married my high school sweetheart, and to still be so in love with him 10 years later. I know it doesn't work out for everyone - I just googled "high school sweetheart relationship statistics" and found several sites that said the statistics were less than 2% that the marraige would work out. Ouch.
For me, though, marrying my first true love has been bliss. Matt is perfect for me in so many ways - no one else could ever compare.
We've grown up together. We've become adults together. Luckily, we've grown closer to each other through all that. There's a trust between us that I think comes from having been together for so long. We've seen each other change our viewpoints, our mindsets, our basic truths. Everyone does that as they grow up - the things your experience change the way you look at life. I feel lucky that we've been through all of those changes together - and come through all of it more compatible and more in love than ever.
I don't know why those changes have made us stronger instead of weaker. I can see how the opposite would happen.
I'd like to say it's because we're smarter, or we work harder, or that we love each other more than those couples that don't make it...but the fact is, that I think it's just luck.
This highschool sweetheart relationship turned out to be based on real, lasting compatibility. That's really lucky for us.
I just realized how many times I've said "luck" or "lucky" in this post. I could go back and change them to fortunate or blessed...but I kind of like the theme. So instead I'm changing the post title from "Happy Anniversary!" to "Lucky Me!"
To celebrate this year we went to Sanctuary for a couples massage. Sandy and L'Jean took the kids and we had a really nice time.
This is us - I made Matt set up the tripod so we'd have a picture. He thought I was silly, but did it anyway.
We were home in time to make dinner, give the kids a bath and watch some bad Summer tv while we played Scrabble - sounds boring, huh? It was actually really relaxing - and just what we needed!
On our actual anniversary (a Tuesday) Matt brought me home a dozen gorgeous, fat red roses. I made him homemade coconut ice cream for dessert.
Another successful year - and just like all the others, this was the best so far. I love you so much, baby! Lucky me :)
