A Cat

Asher was hilarious this morning at breakfast, I had to share our conversation.

"Mommy, I really want a cat."
"Why do you want a cat, baby?"
"So I can chase it with my dump truck."
(I won't let him chase the dogs with his dump truck)
"You can't chase a cat with your dump truck!"
"No, just a regular cat. With black stripes and green eyes, so I can chase it with my yellow dump truck."
"Dude, you can't chase ANY animal with your dump truck. It's mean. And we're not getting a cat."

Here Tessa jumps in
"Even if we had a cat, Mommy wouldn't let you chase it with your dump truck. If we had a bird she wouldn't let you chase it with your dump truck, either. Because dump trucks hit birds, and they run over dogs and cats. And you shouldn't chase people with it, either, because that's just mean."
Asher says "Tessa..." - imitating my 'warning' voice.
I say "Tessa, that's enough" (she has a tendency to go off on long tangents, especially when she thinks she's teaching Asher something)
Asher says "I made my face at her"
I say "Enough, Asher."

Silence for a few minutes while we watch Curious George. Then,
"Mommy, how old are you?"
"Twen...thirty"
"How old is daddy?"
"Thirty"
"No he's not!"
"Yes, he is"
"No - he's 14!!!"
"Well, that's about right, too."
"I know"
Tessa says "But really he's 30"

Another few minutes of George, then,
"Knock, knock, Mommy"
"Who's there?"
"Motorcycle"
"Motorcycle who?"
"Purple!!! No, wait. Knock, knock"
"Who's there?"
"cat"
"Cat who?"
"meow"

And we've come full circle. Later on, I'm sure he'll ask about a cat again. :)
