Run-in(s) with the Polices

About a month ago, on my way to take Tessa to school one morning, I was pulled over for speeding.

I've lived on this mountain for over 3 years, and in that time I've NEVER been pulled over - something I was quite proud of! The cops patrol our mountain pretty well, and many of our friends (not to mention Matt!) have been pulled over going up or down.
But I am a good driver :)
Or, at least, I was.

The morning I was pulled over I was speeding. In fact, I looked down at my speedometer about 45 seconds before I was pulled over and thought "oh - I'm going a little fast..."
But by then it was too late.

The cop was really nice, and I didn't *think* he was going to give me a ticket, but just in case...
I pulled out the big guns and dropped my neighbors name.

Our next door neighbors, Rob and Brittany, are great. Rob is a Draper City policeman. He works the grave shift, currently, and I watch their little girl, Averey, for a few hours a couple of times a week while he sleeps. Brittany has told me if I ever needed to, I could tell a cop that he was my friend.
So I did.
And it worked!
I drove away SO carefully, and on my way back up the mountain after dropping Tessa at school I gave him a little wave...as I drove past at exactly 40mph.

Since my little run-in with the police Asher has talked about it constantly.
He was terrified when he saw the flashing lights - terrified! I had to talk him down - "it's okay, man, police are NICE!"
Every time we're in the car he says "we're not driving too fast, right mom?" or
"we're driving good, right mom?"
Back seat driver extraordinare, that's my boy!
Even Tessa's tired of it. The other day he said (again) "we're not driving too fast, right mom?" and she answered for me "Asher, we're FINE!"
His response was "No, Tessa, the polices need mommy to drive REALLY slow."

Here's the kicker...
Only about 2 weeks after I was pulled over for the first time on my mountain...I was pulled over for the SECOND time on my mountain. This time, I knew the cop (a friend of Rob and Brittany's that I've met at their house several times.)
I was so NOT speeding as fast as he said I was, and I even argued with him - for just a second. Then he sent me on my way - without a ticket :)
I was taking Tessa and 2 friends to Girl Scouts and Asher wasn't with us - thank goodness! I can only imagine how often he'd be talking about "the polices" if he had been there!

Although, that night at Girl Scouts, one of the girls who'd been in the car with us shared a story for her "show and tell" about - you guessed it - me being pulled over.

In my opinion (okay, experience), it's impossible to come down your mountain without speeding.
