Tessa has a habit of forgetting things. I should clarify - not things...items.
She's lost so many things already in the 6 weeks she's been back to school. All because she leaves them somewhere - in the classroom, on the playground, at loading...
Half a dozen hairbows, 2 sweaters (one of which we did recover), a bracelet, 2 necklaces, countless pencils, the tinkerbell notebook that she just HAD to have...
More that I can't remember.
She leaves her lunch bag at school at least 50% of the time. Luckily, she has 2.
I know all little kids forget things, but I also know Tessa is on the high end of that scale. I've talked to other parents, their kids aren't losing anywhere near what Tessa is.
When I pick her up from school and ask her "where's your lunch bag?" "where's your hairbow?" "where's your backpack?" her answer is usually shoulders shrugged, arms out to the side, palm up, and "I forgot."
So here's the funny story.
Yesterday morning as I was doing her hair for school, Tessa found a little pink ribbon in the hair elastics and decided to tie it around her finger. She chattered to me all about how it would help her to remember to bring home her lunch bag.
It made me laugh, because I can remember being fascinated by the idea of a string around your finger to help you remember something.
So, when I finished her hair I helped her tie the ribbon around her little pointer finger, careful not to tie it too tight. (I can remember my own finger turning purple several times from tying something around it tightly enough to cut off the circulation.)
She was very excited about her ribbon, and came up with something else it would help her remember every couple of minutes, lol.
It was my morning to drive carpool, so we hopped in the car, picked up Kyle and Asher and I dropped the kids off.
When we got home I walked around to the passenger side to let Asher out. The first thing I noticed when I opened the door was the little pink ribbon, lying on the floor. The second thing I noticed was her lunch bag (full of lunch, of course) on the seat behind it.
LOL!
Guess that ribbon thing doesn't really work. Or maybe you have to tie it tighter than I did.
It made me giggle.
