Tessa's Stories

Tessa is always coming up with something that cracks me up.
A couple of weeks ago she and Asher were watching Curious George (what else? Asher's obsessed with George and Tessa's such a nice big sister that she almost never makes a fuss about watching it, even though they have limited TV time.)
Anyway, they're watching Curious George and she says to me "Mom, is the man in the yellow hat gay?"
I'm thinking "probably" but I say "I don't think so, honey, why do you ask?"
"Because he doesn't have a girlfriend, and he never goes out on any dates"
so I say "Yeah, but he doesn't have a boyfriend, either, and he sort of had a girlfriend in the movie..."
She says "who? oh, yeah...the teacher lady. He didn't seem to like her very much..."
So I just said "I don't think he's gay, babe, but I guess he could be."
She didn't say anything else about it after that, but I thought it was pretty interesting that she'd wonder about it.

Tessa LOVES spending time with her grandparents - both sets. They are (of course) loads more fun than mom and dad.
Last weekend she and Asher spent the night with my parents after Kill and Andrea's wedding. It's been a long time since they've slept over anywhere - they had a good time, though both my parents had to work Saturday morning so we picked them up early. Tessa complained after about having to come home, of course.
This weekend Matt's parents took them overnight while we had our Halloween party. They took them to church on Sunday and didn't drop them off until 1:00 or so. The kids were spoiled rotten, of course, and had a great time. We had Jesse and Sandy and L'Jean back for dinner Sunday night and when they left Tessa pouted and cried - asking to go home with Grandma again to spend the night. Sandy told her L'Jeans Birthday wasn't far off and that maybe Sebastian would be here then and she could have a sleepover again - which Tessa was super excited about.
Then Sandy told me that Tessa had told her that she spends a LOT more time with her Nana than she does with her, but that was because Nana volunteers.
I thought that was such a strange thing for her to say! After they left we asked Tessa about it - told her that's not true - but she refused to budge, saying that she DOES spend more time with Nana. She doesn't. We probably see them equally, though the time we spend with my family tends to be a little more spur-of-the-moment and the time we spend with Matt's family tends to be more planned - for Birthday parties, etc.
Anyway, I mentioned it to my mom yesterday on the phone, and she said that Tessa told her the exact same thing last weekend when she spent the night! She said "I wish I saw you as much as I see my grandma...I get to see her a lot more often"
And so my mom promised that after she recovers from her surgery (she had a hernia repair surgery on Friday) they'd have a sleepover again.
What a little manipulator! Tricking both grandma's into inviting her for sleepovers! LOL - such a girl!!!

She's doing well in school, though she's recently decided she doesn't like doing homework right when she gets home from school. Fine with me - she can do it after dinner before her bath just as easily. Apparently, though, she thought I'd make her do it right after school no matter what, because she started telling me she doesn't feel well when I pick her up.
"I have a tummy ache because I didn't eat enough at lunch today because Luci wanted me to hurry"
"I fell off the monkey bars at recess and hit my head, I think you need to check my brain with the flashlight when we get home"
(she means check if her pupils dilate when I shine a light in them)
and yesterday "Brayden kicked a soccor ball at my face today, it hit me right in the nose"
All excuses so that I'll say "when we get home you can rest on the couch for a little bit"
Silly girl.
We've talked about lying. She knows it's okay to tell 'stories' - as long as she doesn't say they're true when they're not, it's not lying. She's doing very well with that - if I ask her "is that true?" she always tells the truth.

This weekend she was supposed to be cleaning her room, so she got her notebook and pencil out of her backpack and made a checklist of the things she needed to get done. LOL! No one loves a checklist like me...except Tessa! She's used her checklist a few times already. It doesn't seem to be making a difference in keeping her room clean yet, but you never know!

Last one...
On the way home from school today Tessa was playing with her backpack, which has Tinkerbell on it. She said to Asher "Can you say hi to Tinkerbell?"
So Asher says "hi, Tinkerhell"
(she loves that he says Tinkerhell, instead of bell)
Then Tessa answers - in a funny voice (which is decidedly deep, for a fairy)
"Hello, Asher. My real name is TinkerBELL - but you can call me Tinkerhell if you want to"
LOL

OMG, Mandy. I'm at work reading this and I'm laughing out loud with tears in my eyes. This is the funniest thing I've read in a while. Thank you!

I think she's pretty funny, too! This is such a funny age, isn't it?
BTW - you don't have to write (Maybabies) after your comments - I know who you are, silly!
