Room Mom

This year I got asked to be Room Mom for Tessa's 1st Grade class. I don't know if I was the first one to volunteer, or if I just got lucky, but Tessa's teacher called me a couple weeks after school started and asked if I'd do it. The answer, of course, was an enthusiastic "Yes!"
It's been so much fun - and a lot of work!
Communicating with parents, setting up volunteers, making flyers and sending them home, etc. A couple of weeks ago I actually taught an "enhancement" to her class - just an art project - we made telescopes out of paper towel and toilet paper rolls in honor of Columbus Day and the Conquistadors they'd been learning about in class. It was fun.
Today is the Halloween party - the best part of being room mom! I got foam pumpkins for the kids to decorate for the craft, we're having sliced apples and sugar cookies for a snack and playing Bingo for the game. The kids got to wear their costumes to school - Tessa looked so cute in her little devil dress! I have 3 other moms coming to help, plus Becki will be there. The party is at 1:15, I'm excited!
I'm taking my camera - hopefully I can remember to get a bunch of pictures! I took it when we did our craft and didn't manage to take even one - oops!

Today is L'Jeans Birthday, we're having dinner with the family tonight. That means I get to make the Pioneer Womans cake - yay!

Hopefully I'll have pictures from the party to post tomorrow :)

ETA Pictures!

Tessa's school Halloween party was so much fun! We played Bingo, made pumpkin face crafts, listened to stories and had a snack. It lasted about an hour and a half, and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun. Ms. McKee said it was a great party, so I feel pretty good about my first effort! Next up is Thanksgiving - my favorite Holiday. I need to start coming up with fun ideas for the party now!
My camera battery died just about 20 minutes into the party :(
I need a new battery so badly! I just ordered one through Amazon - hopefully it won't take too long to get here!
Anyway, I didn't get many pictures. Here's the best of the bunch - Tessa playing Bingo and Asher thinking he's part of the class

L'Jeans Birthday dinner was nice. We had a dozen different types of potatoes for dinner - all super yummy. Ryan made the crash potatoes from the Pioneer Woman site - they were awesome. Tessa, especially, LOVED them.

Here's L'Jean, blowing out the candles on her cake (that's 2 candles on one side and 3 on the other - for 23) Happy Birthday, L'Jean!

The Pioneer Woman cake turned out really good, by the way. It was a hit - we refused to take any leftovers home, becuase I knew if I did I'd just eat it all.

After we'd eaten Asher got sick and threw up all over me. Nothing is better than toddler puke in your hair. I'll spare you the grusome details - suffice it to say that we rushed home and I jumped in the shower the second we walked in the door. Luckily, Ash managed not to get much on himself and was able to go straight to bed after a quick change of jammies.
Poor kid! I think it was just the combination of his head cold and being up late. He never did throw up again, and did pretty well through the weekend.
