Thanksgiving

Sweet Caroline is now the song playing when you open my blog. There are 3 reasons for this.

3. Neil Diamond is a stud. You know it's true.
2. Natalie's annual Birthday celebration at Tavernacle is coming up, and Sweet Caroline is a favorite there (especially when we say "so good! so good!")
1. In honor of Thanksgiving.

One day, years ago, Matt mentioned loving sweet potato pie. I said I'd never had it. This brought about one of those open-mouthed, wide-eyed responses "you're never had sweet potato pie???" he said
So I suggested we make one.
Matt got a recipe from a friend he worked with at the restaurant. His friends name was Frasier (like the boxer, only Frasier was his first name) and he was from Louisiana. The fact that he was from Louisiana is what prompted Matt to ask him about sweet potato pie, with no lead in whatsoever. Just "hey, Frasier, you're from Louisiana - you got a recipe for sweet potato pie?"
Frasier didn't disappoint. The recipe was his great, great grand-mammy's (or something) and it was awesome. We still use that recipe, without even one change. That's big for me. It's a testament to how fantastic this pie really is.

So we make Sweet Potato Pie every year for Thanksgiving. We've been doing it forever. For longer than we've had kids. A few years ago, while making sweet potato pie, one of us (I honestly forget who) burst into song. The words were, instead of Sweet Caroline, (I know you see it coming...) "sweet potato pie"
The rest of the lyrics are pretty simple, and change often. Something like "sweet potato pie, bum bum bum, pumpkin never was so good, da da da, you taste so fine, bum bum bum, we-e knew-ew that you would..."

This year I'm in charge of pies for Thanksgiving. We'll be making sweet potato pie, apple tart with cream cheese and (for the first time) pecan. Can't wait!

I want your recipe. Honestly, I've never had sweet potato pie. And just last night I was thinking that I ought to find a recipe because I love sweet potato's and so does Connor. How funny to read your post this morning. I'll trade you for my sweet potato pancake recipe :)
