I was well taught by my parents, and I generally stay away from those 3 magic topics that tend to get the blood boiling. In polite company I never talk about Money, Religon or Politics.
I think that's a good rule to follow no matter who you are or where you live.
For me, especially, living here, especially, it's a very good rule.
Which is why, until now, I've not mentioned the presidential race even one time - despite the fact that it's been a major topic of discussion in my real life for 6 months or more.
After watching CNN for 5 straight hours last night, though, watching the states roll in, hearing the projections and finally listening to McCains concession speech and Obama's victory address - which gave me chills and made me tear up more than once - I have to say
Thank God!
I'm not naive. I don't expect for America's problems to disapear the day Barack Obama is sworn into office. I do believe that his plan to withdraw from Iraq, his economic policy, his focus on health care and clean energy, and his commitment to improving the lives of America's middle class is exactly what our country needs right now.
America voted in record numbers this election - more than 64% of us came out to choose the next president!
Even Utah - one of the reddest states in the country - showed some desire for change and voted 61.5% McCain, 35.5% Obama. (For the rest of Utah's election results, go here.)
I'm proud to have been one of those that showed the world that American citizens are not as apathetic as we have seemed in recent years. I'm proud that we stood up and proclaimed that we are ready for change.
Just 76 Days until Inauguration!
