At home, the power was out. Don't know how long it had been off, but the house was a chilly 63 degrees. We put the kids to bed with flashlights and caldles, piled on extra blankets, and never even realized that Asher didn't have his pacifier.
The next afternoon, when he bagan asking for it constantly, we figured it must have been left at Becki's. Matt, Tessa and Asher were all having haircuts that day, so we just told him we'd get it them. We had extras in the cabinet, but I decided we'd wait and see how he did without it.
The rest is history. He hasn't had a pacifier in more than 5 days. There were times it was hard -though the last time he mentioned it was Tuesday afternoon. He doesn't go down for a nap as easily as he used to, and seems to have a bit more trouble going to bed at night. But for the most part it seems to have been relatively painless for him.
I can't tell you how much I wanted to give it to him at times. Without the binky he seems older. He talks a lot more clearly. I'm having a hard time with him not being a baby anymore. He's had a growth spurt lately. I measured him and he is 36.25 inches tall!!! He doesn't fit under the counter tops anymore and had bumped his head a few times. The craziest thing about his height is that when we moved into this house Tessa was 4 years old - and 41.5 inches tall. He's almost 2 years younger than she was, and only 5 inches shorter. He's going to outgrow her soon!
He's still just 28.4 pounds, though - skinny!
He's gotten so big! And he's so smart!
His imaginitive play is ridiculously advanced for his age. He plays like a 4 or 5 year old, rather than a 2.5 year old. He even plays out dialog between toys! I know much of that comes from having and older sister to teach him those things, but I can't help but think he's a bit of a genius, too :)
I thought it was time to post another bunch of Asher-isms. Here are some of the cute things he says -
He loves his Disney channel cartoons in the morning. He has a little exclamation for each of the shows he watches. Micky Mouse Clubhouse is his favorive. When it comes on he says "Mickyminniegoofyhuto!" all in one breath. For Handy Manny he says "HannyMannyTools!" for My Friends Tigger and Pooh he says "TiggerPooh!" or sometimes "TiggerPoohDarbyBuster!" and for Little Einsteins he says "LittleEinsteinsRocket!"
He can't say the P sound. He loves when we try to teach it to him - laughs like crazy when we exagerate it "say puh, puh, puh" and grabs at our lips.
Come to think of it, without the binky I'll bet he can say the p sound - guess it's time to check again!
He loves to steal Tessa's dolls and says 'my baby!'
I'm thinking about getting him a boy baby of his own.
When we are at home during the day and Tessa is at school sometimes he'll find a doll. He pretends the baby was crying for him and says "where was I? I right here"
I always tell him "I'm right here" when he's been crying for me, but the "where was I?" is his own invention. Must be because he's been wondering where the hell I was until I get to him!
Often when he plays (by himself or with Tessa) someone ends up needing to be rescued. He says "I rescue you you you!" or sometimes "I save you you you!"
The 'you you you' is so funny - it's almost like he's imitating an echo.
He has this little truck and trailer matchbox car set with a cow that rides in the trailer. It's one of his favorite toys. He can put the cow on the trailer himself, but it takes some serious concentration for him to do it, so instead he'll ask for me to do it a dozen times an hour. He says "cow on trailer!"
He likes to play in his room with his train table or whatever. He often yells at Tessa to come play with him. But he won't say room - he says 'norm' instead. So it's "Tessa come play in my norm!" He can say room - he just won't. It's like he thinks we're wrong, at the word is actually norm.
He doesn't say "what", he says "who"
So if he doesn't know what something is he says "who's that?"
It's a total crack up, but also slightly akward when in public, because I'm sure people at the grocery store think he's talking about them, when he really wants to know what laundry detergent (or whatever) is.
He emphasizes words in a strange way. If his nose is stuffy he says "my NOSE hurts!" if his skin is dry he says "my SKIN hurts!"
When he wants something done or fixed he says "YOU do it" or "YOU fix it" with a really strong emphasis on YOU.
When his blanket or some clothes are fresh from the dryer (his favorite thing) or when he gets into the bathtub or shower he says "nice-a AND warm" about the temperature.
He loves to eat whatever we're having for dinner. He couldn't be more different from Tessa when it comes to food. Last night she wouldn't touch the Mexican lasagna I made, wanted a quesadilla, instead. Asher, meanwhile, said he was "full" when given his quesadilla, then sat on my lap and ate half of my dinner. He always says "_____ is GOOD"
When it's time for bed he sometimes protests and says "no, stay UP!" Usually he changes his mind after just a second, though - when we say "you go climb in your bed and I'll bring you a bottle." He recently learned to climb in and out of his crib and loves getting in (doesn't often get out, though.) He also loves his bottle, and only gets one in bed.
He counts all the time. I think he can actually count items up to 4, the rest is just recitation. He says "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,14,14,14!"
We're working on it.
He hates to wear a jacket or coat. He also hates shoes that are even a bit tight on him. He says "so SQUISHY!"
When asking for things (and especially after he's been told no to something) he says "How 'bout this one?!"
That's it for now. I looked through my pictures and I don't have anything of Ash since Christmas. Guess it's time to take a couple, so I can update this with a new photo of him!

HA! I just read "Hell" in this post. Now I don't feel so bad about using h-e-double-hockey-sticks in my comment on your latest post.
Love this post Mandy! It's so fun to hear all of the "ism's" that your kids are doing. They are both so damn cute, growing up too fast, but sooo cute!
