I've been a slacker here on the family blog.
There's just not much going on here. We've settled into the Fall/Winter/School routine and things are busy.
My volunteering at the school takes up a ton of time, both at home and outside of the house. Matt's working hard (as usual) and going to school. Thank goodness he only has one class this semester - he has 3 labs to make up from when he was out of town for so long. He's going to have to go do them on a Saturday sometime, but we keep putting it off because...well, because who wants to go to school on a Saturday!
Tessa gets home from school about 4:00 (her carpool picks up at another school before bringing her home) and has homework every night but Friday. She's very smart, but struggling a bit with her timed Math. She knows all the answers, but can't do them as quickly as she's supposed to. Most of that is because she doesn't focus well - everything is a distraction. I wish that the school didn't focus so much on timed drills. She understands the concepts perfectly - her grasp of story problems and 3 dimensional shapes is amazing. I'm afraid that the focus on timing is going to make her hate Math. Parent teacher conferences are next week - we'll definitely be discussing it.
Asher is so big. He's a boy now, not my baby. I know he has been for a while, but it's an almost daily realization for me...and I sort of hate it. He's got his own ideas and very strong opinions, and he's stubborn. Both my kids are, actually...wonder where they got that from?
He loves to sing and color and play with legos. He's begun building really great things all by himself in the past few weeks - getting more self-sufficient since Tessa's gone to school all day. His matchbox cars are still his favorite toys - he must have 200 of them.
In the past few weeks he's been eating like crazy - he must be going through a growth spurt. I weighed and measured him this morning, and he's definitely grown! He weighs just under 32 pounds and is 39.5 inches tall. That's just 2 inches shorter than Tessa was when we moved in here...she was 13 months older then than he is now.
He still naps for me daily (as long as we are home at nap time!) for around 2 hours. I love having him with me all the time and I'm sort of dreading preschool next fall.
He's not as affectionate as Tessa, but he does give great hugs and sweet, dry kisses.
Tessa kisses like her daddy - wet and sloppy! She loves like him, too, without coaxing, without holding back, without needing anything in return. She tells me she loves me at the oddest time...gives bear hugs without being asked.
Asher's different - too busy to give loves unless he's asked, and even then he often has to be coaxed (or threatened!) When he does give loves it's hurried.
Sometimes, though, he's much more affectionate. After a bath, before bed, he snuggles up so close to me on the couch that he's practically underneath me. And then he demands my FULL attention.
He probably resembles me in the same way Tessa does her daddy.
This point had no point, except as an update. More ramblings.
Next post will have a point, I promise!
