This past Spring, Tessa played soccer for the first time.
She really enjoyed it, and it was a fun weekly activity (twice weekly, if you count practices!)
So when our city decided to offer Fall Soccer this year, we were excited to be part of it.
Even better, they had a pre-K age group, so Asher was able to play, too!
They both had a great time. Asher showed the same type of natural ability that Tessa did when she started playing. He's really pretty good! Not the best on the team, but he runs right along side everyone else, knows how to kick the ball (dribbles VERY well!) and loves to play. He never did score a real goal...mostly because he was absolutely convinced that just getting the ball inside the white goalie box was a goal. We didn't realize that he thought that until about 3/4 of the way through the season. Then it took a game or two to convince him that he was wrong - the ball actually has to go inside the NET for it to be a goal. I'm still not sure he believes us.
His team was awesome - they won all but one game, I think! Score keeping is very casual for these pre-K teams, and no one really even talks about winning or losing.
Asher's Slideshow:
They often had a goal facing the sun - which made it hard for the little ones to play goalie! Some of my favorite pictures are of Asher doing other things when he was supposed to be playing goalie!
Tessa didn't do quite as well at Fall Soccer as she did in Spring Soccer...mostly because she knew everyone on her team and was far more interested in socializing than playing. Last season she was on a co-ed team, but third grade starts the gender separation, so this time around she was with all girls. And man, was she chatty! The team was 3rd and 4th grade, and Tessa was the shortest on the team, though there was one other girl that was the same height. They both looked very tiny next to some of the 4th graders! She enjoyed herself, though, and once I offered her cash for a goal she started trying much harder! She never did score, but she played well!
Tessa's Slideshow:
Tessa spent a lot of this season talking (especially to BFFs Rowan and Isabella!) so there aren't as many pictures of her playing!
Also - please excuse the poor quality of their team photo's - they didn't come electronically and I had to take a picture of a picture! How low-tech!
